The Pucara de Tilcara is a pre-Inca fortification located on a hill just outside Tilcara. The strategic location was chosen to be easily defensible and to provide good views over a long stretch of the Quebrada de Humahuaca. Starting in 1911 the University of Buenos Aires began to clear about 22,000 sq ft of the site and rebuild some of the structures such as the house seen here
