Small Chapel Gate Dome Old Basilica Shrine of Guadalupe Mexico City Mexico. Also known as Templo Expiatorio a Cristo Rey. Basilica construction was started in 1531, finished in 1709. This is the basilica is the location where the Virgin Mary appeared to the Meixcan peasant Juan Diego. The old Basilica is where Juan Diego's original cloak with the picture of the Virgin Mary first appeared.
