UNITED-STATES, Charleston : Heavy rains dropped nearly 17 inches on the state capital of Charleston in a 17 hour span when catastrophic floods ravaged much of South Carolina on October 4, 2015. At least nine people died in South Carolina as a result of the flooding and one person has died in neighboring North Carolina. The storms also left some 30,000 residents without power and shut down many major roads. Governor Nikki Haley called the rains the worst in 1,000 years.
