Claude Boucher, the intendant of the generality of Bordeaux, appointed to this position by Louis XV in 1720, wishes to open the city on the river in order to modernize it and offer a more welcoming face to the foreigner arriving by the right bank of the Garonne. For this part of the walls that surround Bordeaux is destroyed, allowing the construction of a Place Royale.
