Le Bourgidou could be very old, perhaps before Saint Louis. It partly follows an old route of the Rhône, when it was not `small` and the main branch passed near Saint-Gilles. It probably linked in its upstream part the Vistre to the Rhône, and then resumed one of the routes of the `Rhône Vif`, whose limit between the departments of Gard and Bouches-du-Rhône still follows the course.
