The Lemaresquier quay was drilled following the creation of the port in 1666. It has since allowed the Canal du Midi which crosses the Thau lagoon to emerge into the Mediterranean. There is the consular palace built in an art deco style which reminds us of the importance of the wine trade with its exterior vine-cluster sculptures. Its architecture has an oriental influence with its central tower evoking a minaret.
