Sankt Goarshausen is located at the foot of the Loreley. Katz Castle (Neu-Katzenelnbogen Castle),which towers over the town,was built around 1371 by Count Wilhelm II of Katzenelnbogen as a reaction to the construction of Maus Castle by the Archbishops of Trier.
