The key deer only live in the Florida Keys. They were nearly extinct in the 1950's dwindling to an estimated 25 deer!. The population now is estimated at between 300 to 800 deer. The key deer remain on the endangered species list and a National Key Deer Refuge has been established in Big Pine Key and No Name Key.
